Rick the Mexican launched Stunt Records and Sonic Sounds Records in the early 90’s. RTM’s labels featured independent releases of dance music as well as rap and hip hop tracks.
In 1992, Rick the Mexican remixed and edited the multiplatinum single "Informer", a song by Canadian Reggae musician Snow which was released in August 1992 as the first single from his debut album, 12 Inches of Snow (1993). "Informer" peaked at number one on the singles chart in Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland, as well as on the Eurochart Hot 100. It entered the top 10 in Austria, France, Greece, Iceland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Outside Europe, it reached number one in Australia, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, and on the US Billboard Hot 100. "Informer" was awarded with a gold record in Austria and the Netherlands, a silver record in the UK, and a platinum record in Germany, New Zealand and the US. In Australia, it received a double-platinum record in January 2022. In 2019, Puerto Rican singer, songwriter and rapper Daddy Yankee released a new version of "Informer" as "Con Calma” together with Snow, who recorded new parts. The Spanish-language remake topped the charts of 20 countries and reached the top 10 of 10 others.
A native New Yorker from Washington Heights, DJ RTM began his DJ career spinning records in apartment, basement and street parties in New York City, eventually working his way to residencies and guest spots at some of the most prestigious clubs in New York: the likes of The Tunnel, Twilo, Limelight, Palladium, 1018, Studio 84, Fuego Fuego, and The Copa just to name a few. His special edited mixes have been featured on major radio stations: WKTU, WPLJ, La Mega and MUNDONET Internet Radio, as well as many Internet radio shows.
Rick the Mexican was heavily influenced and inspired by the likes of David Morales, Frankie Knuckles, Lord G, Hector Romero, Jellybean Benetiz, Shep Pettibone, Larry Levan, Tom Moulton, Hex Hector and Ted Currier when he was accepted to be a member of the prestigious “For the Record” DJ pool founded by NYC nightlife impresario, Judy Weinstein.
“Early in my career, my greatest honor as a DJ producer was to have the great DJ/Producer/Remixer Larry Levan, remix my second single Kindness for Weakness by The CUT on Supertronic Records. Another great honor was meeting Dave Desden and Ruben “Nene Musik” Martinez early in their music careers and to be able to offer them words of encouragement and to see the great impact and accomplishments throughout the years that they have had on the dance music industry”.
“ I always stick to my roots in the music industry, I am, and will always be a DJ!”
