Norma Jean Wright & Luci Martin

Picture
Norma Jean Wright and Luci Martin first came to international attention as the lead vocalists of the powerhouse multi-platinum-recording group Chic.  Collectively they have earned gold and platinum albums with smash hits “Dance, Dance, Dance”(Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah), “Everybody Dance”, “Good Times”, “Le Freak”, and others.  Highly acclaimed for their vocal style, they quickly became sought after session singers and loaned their voices to productions for luminaries such as Madonna, Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and The Rolling Stones.

Chic’s bright airy panorama of sound, anchored by the percussive, sensual and sultry vocal interaction provided by Luci Martin & Norma Jean gave the group a note of distinction.  This along with Bernard Edwards’ ferocious loping bass lines and Tony Thompson’s four-on-the-floor bass drum and percolating hi hats, immediately propelled the group to the top of the charts. It began when Ohio native, Norma Jean, moved to New York City in pursuit of a music career.  Within months she was introduced to Chic founding fathers, Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers.  Impressed with her vocal prowess, Norma Jean became the lead vocalist of the band, and to complete the lineup, Luci Martin, a pretty young vocalist of Latin descent, was enlisted and became the fifth member of the group.

Norma Jean is also noted for her own hit songs “High Society” and “Saturday”. Today as former members of Chic, Norma Jean and Luci continues to perform some of the above hits along with many other classics throughout the world. Their musical talent has spanned over 2 decades and continues to have a lasting impact on listeners around the globe.  Their sound takes you back to the era of Studio 54, and is reminiscent of a time when dancing was a way of life, and it simply reminds you that “good music, like good times, should last forever”.
